Snack and Chat

This week, we did a new type of learning activity in 4th grade called the "Snack and Chat."  Each table team was given a paper and a baggy of questions about our play for the week. Students were then given a bowl of treats to enjoy while discussing the play with each other.  It made for a fun and enjoyable learning experience.

Fifth graders finished a musical this week called "Thirteen Colonies," a funny rendition of drama regarding our study of the Colonial Period of Early America. Students completed a self-assessment of their individual performances after we finished our performance.

This week students are learning about the difference between shapes (2D) and forms (3D). Forms have depth, along with height and width; shapes only have height and width. As you can see from the photos below, students are enjoying creating projects using shapes and forms.

Instruments, instruments, instruments!

This week several students enjoyed playing instruments during music class.  6th grade performed on xylophones and keyboards to John Mellencamp's rock song "This Is Your Life," and 5th graders performed on everything from sandblocks to flutes and triangles for the Russian symphony orchestra piece "Peter and the Wolf."

Other students spent time creating rhythms and playing them on mini cymbals.

While another group played various rhythms to a cowboy folk song.

Art to Remember

This week the students have been hard at work on their Art to Remember creations. This is our annual fine arts class fundraiser. Every child gets to use his/her imagination and creativity to create unique, one-of-a-kind designs that they are then able to purchase on various items such as calendars, shirts, water bottles, and necklaces. As you can see from the pics below, the students always seem to enjoy Art to Remember week!
